Waterfall Residence

Herndon, VA

To be located in a suburb of Washington D.C. that has strict rules about new construction, the Smeda Residence was to be a 6000 SF addition to a small, existing Georgian home. Wrapping the existing home, the new addition featured open, glass-walled family spaces and large bedrooms for the family. Pushing the house into the land of extravagance was a two story indoor pool featuring a waterfall from the great room fireplace and all topped off with a 700 SF rooftop suite surrounded by a private rooftop terrace. The existing Georgian home would have been partially renovated to create a mother-in-law suite for the owners’ aging parents.

Ultimately the project fell victim to the housing crisis, but we certainly enjoyed the design process nevertheless.
